Hi, My name is Katelyn Ann-May Norman, I'm 13yrs old. I was diagnosed last May 2011 with a bone cancer called osteosarcoma. I was a normal teenager until my friend Micaila hit me in the arm and suddenly it went limp and the feeling didn't come back till 30mins later. My mother took me to our family doctor, and from there they thought it was just a hematoma in between my muscles.
As the days went on, the pain got worse my arm started swelling and my arm lost all functions. They ordered an x-ray, it showed abnormal bone structure in my arm that a tumor was pertruding through the bone.
After numerous scans and test it was confirmed Osteosarcoma a rare rare bone cancer. I started my first round of chemo on memorial day weekend. I did a 11 week treatment plan on three chemos that are recommended for my type of cancer after my 11 week treatment was done Monroes Carrell Children's  Hospital at Vanderbilt did my arm transplant with a donor bone, metal plate, bolts and screws.
But, on my scans they found while on my 11 week treatment the chemo didn't treat my lungs and it had matasized more. I currently do chemotherapy with 2 chemos,  I get numerous blood/platetet transfusions and still have several more future surgeries to undergo.  I will not be declared cured for up to 5 or 10 years due to my cancer being a rare form of bone cancer.
